AMERICA ON THE MOVE!
According to a recent study released by the moving experts at Move.org, as of December 2021, roughly 1-in-5 (about 20%) of Americans moved at some point during 2021. Move.org analyzed the latest migration data to learn where and why people moved this year. Its report found that 1-in-3 people that moved in 2021 purchased a home. Their study also found that Florida was the most moved-to state and California was the top state folks moved away from.
Other “key” findings from the study, which surveyed approximately 1,000 Americans who had moved during 2021, included:
• 4􏰀􏰁 of moves took place within the same city, and 20% of moves were interstate moves.
• 􏰀􏰂􏰁 of 􏰃mericans cited lower ta􏰄es as a contributing factor for their decision to move.
• 62􏰁 of 􏰃mericans e􏰄perienced supply chain shortages during their move.
• 􏰀2􏰁 of those who moved were seeking better weather, and 38% cited climate change as the reason for moving.
• 􏰀􏰅􏰁 moved for political reasons and 4􏰀􏰁 were seeking “better culture.”
• 45􏰁 were seeking lower cost of living by moving.
Reminder to City of Los Angeles Rental Housing Providers Regarding Emergency Rental Assistance
On August 25, 2021, the Los Angeles City Council approved major changes to the Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP). These changes are meant to provide more rental assistance to Los Angeles City renters and landlords impacted by the COVI􏰆-1􏰅 pandemic by transferring responsibility for the program to the State of California. Through this program, renter and owners may access the $5.2 billion in emergency rental relief funds the State has received from the Federal government, so that those who are eligible for rent relief have a better chance to receive it.
